Single Storey Extension in Kislingbury

When starting this project we knew we had an access problem. Fortunately, a friendly farmer granted us permission for temporary access across a field. And even better, we were able to re-distribute 120 tonnes of topsoil across the fence line, which saved a lot of time and money for our client. Our brief was to create a full-length single-story extension across the back of the house. The extension was divided into two. One-half created extra space for the kitchen and the other a new formal dining room. Both had triple bi-folding doors to the garden and a slabbed entertaining area.

To form a large kitchen diner, the wall between the original kitchen and the new extension was removed and a steel beam was added. A central roof lantern brought in lots of natural light, which made the room light and airy. To make the kitchen cosy all year round, underfloor heating was installed separately to the main house. Enabling the kitchen heating to remain on when the house heating was off. To finish off the kitchen area, we created an inglenook for the range cooker and laid natural stone flooring in a traditional brick pattern. Then everything was ready for the kitchen fitters.
