finding correct builder

5 Tips to Find the Right Builder

Finding the right builder for your project can be mind-boggling. But if you do, the rest should be easy. Whether you need a kitchen extension or a self-build from scratch, each project will need a different team fully qualified within that area.

  1. Source a builder locally. Apart from the obvious time on site, knowledge of local merchants and being familiar with the planning departments. Local builders need good reviews to get work. So generally, letting a client down with bad workmanship would risk a bad name.
  2. As soon as you know what you want, get the builders in. They may provide valuable advice that could save you time and money.
  3. Check out reviews. There is nothing like a genuine recommendation from a happy client! Or even better, find someone who’s recently had work done. With a good experience, a customer may tell 3-5 people, but a bad experience can yield three times that.
  4. Talk to previous customers. Once you’ve found a builder to work with, don’t be afraid to ask for a list of references from their clients.
  5. Last but not least – Beware of ‘too good to be true quotes’. Whether it’s a purposeful down quote to get the business (where you find yourself open to extra charges as the work progresses), or even worse, a misquote where they find the project is hopelessly unprofitable, pack up their bags and move on.

A-Spencer Construction has been called to correct many ‘abandoned projects’. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the client when it should be a happy time.  Long financial disputes can last for years.
